How do I purchase a ticket with Scandinavia Express?

Unfortunately, present banking arrangements do not allow purchases with credit or debit cards. Online or telephone sales are therefore not available. Due to postal delays and cheque fraud, mail purchases are also not available.
Tickets can only be purchased in cash from one of our offices in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda or Zambia.


Does Scandinavia Express have a toll-free telephone number?

No. Scandinavia Express can be contacted by telephone at our Dar-es-Salaam Terminal or through a regional office. See a list of offices here.


Can I make a reservation or purchase a ticket on Scandinavia Express through a travel agent?

Although a travel agent would be able to make a reservation on Scandinavia Express on your behalf, the ticket would still have to be purchased in cash direct from a Scandinavia Express offices.


What information should I have ready when calling Scandinavia Express?

To enable our staff to serve you, please have the following information ready:

  • The city you will be departing from.
  • The destination of your trip.
  • The date you will be leaving.
  • Whether you are interested in a one-way or round-trip purchase.
  • How many passengers will be travelling.


What forms of payment are accepted for travel on Scandinavia Express?

Only cash is accepted, either in the currency of the departing country or US$ currency. Travellers cheques should first  be exchanged at a bank, whilst credit and debit cards are not accepted.


Are tickets available online?

No. You can only purchase tickets in cash directly from any Scandinavia Express offices.

Are tickets available at the Scandinavia Express terminal?
Yes. Scandinavia Express Terminal in Dar-es-Salaam is open from 6am to 7h30pm every day. Outside Dar-es-Salaam, please contact the nearest Scandinavia Express regional office to find out its opening times as these vary according to the coach schedules.

Are tickets available on Scandinavia Express buses?
No. All tickets must be purchased prior to embarkation.


Are tickets available by mail?

No. Mail is generally too slow and unreliable for forwarding payment and tickets.


Can a ticket be bought for another person's immediate or future use?

Yes. A person may purchase a ticket in one city for another person travelling from a different city to use. No additional charge is made for this service. This ticket is transferred from one bus station to the other, under the following criteria:

For open dated travel:

  • The buyer should pay for the ticket from his nearest Scandinavia Express office and then provide the passenger with the receipt number.
  • The passenger should then make a reservation at least three days in advance of the departure date.
  • On the day of travel the passenger should report to the departing Scandinavia Express office at least an hour prior to departure to have the ticket issued against the receipt number.

For reserved travel:

  • The buyer should first make the reservation for the passenger, then pay for the ticket. The buyer should then advise the passenger the ticket receipt number.
  • On the day of travel the passenger should report to the departing Scandinavia Express office at least an hour prior to departure to have the ticket issued against the receipt number.
  • If travel is to occur on the same day as the reservation and payment is made, the buyer and recipient should allow three hours from time of purchase to departure time to complete the transaction.

Other conditions applicable:

  • An appropriate ID or a password is required to collect the ticket.
  • Only the purchaser may cancel the ticket or apply for a refund.
  • To aid children travelling, the purchaser may also send a small cash advance with the ticket. This cash advance can be an amount up to the local equivalent of a maximum of US$10. This passenger aid is only available to travelling children and no charge is made.


Does Scandinavia Express provide ticketing for connecting bus transportation?
Not yet. To facilitate international coach travel for our passengers, Scandinavia Express is in the process of negotiating agreements with some of the major bus lines of other neighbouring countries. Once these agreements are in place, passengers will be able to make reservations and have tickets issued to travel through several countries with Scandinavia Express and its coach partners.
