TOURIST INFORMATION - KENYA

IMMIGRATION

Passport: Required - with certain exceptions (check with your travel agent or Kenya embassy). Minors up to age 16 years travelling alone require their own passport.

Visa: Required (including minors travelling on a parent's passport) - except for nationals of Kenya, holders of a re-entry permit or Kenya Residents Certificate, British passport holders with right of abode in the United Kingdom, nationals of South Africa (30 day permit issued on arrival), nationals of certain countries (check with your travel agent or Kenya embassy).

Visa fee: Payable in foreign currency (US$) Varies between US$10 - 30

HEALTH

Required - Vaccination Certificate against Yellow Fever if arriving in Kenya from abroad within 6 days after leaving or transiting a designated infected area. Check with your travel agent.

Exempt - Children under 1 year old.

Recommendations:

Yellow Fever for visitors to any area outside the main cities (except for children under 1 year old).

Anti-Malaria precautions.

CUSTOMS

Free import (by passengers 16 years and older) of:

1/2lb tobacco or 200 cigarettes, 1 bottle alcoholic beverages, 1 pint perfume.

Fire arms require a police permit.

Prohibited: fruit, plants and seeds, imitation firearms (children toy pistols, etc).

CURRENCY

Import: Allowed:

RESIDENTS of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda - Up to KES200 plus unlimited foreign currency.

NON-RESIDENTS - Local currency prohibited, foreign currency unlimited.

Export: Allowed:

RESIDENTS of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda - Up to KES200 plus restricted amounts of foreign currency (excluding journeys to Tanzania and Uganda).

NON-RESIDENTS - Local currency prohibited, foreign currency limited to that endorsed in the passport on entry.
